Geographical situation

Lurestan province, with total area of 31384 km , is situated in west of Iran between Markazi, Hamadan, Khuzestan, Isfahan, Kermanshah and Ilam provinces. The highest pike of this province is Ostoran Kuh (4050 m high). The Lowest point is situated to the south of this province which is 500 meters high from sea level. Its capital is Khorramabad which is 493 km for from Tehran. Three different climatic conditions prevail in this province. The north and northwestern parts have cold mountainous climate. The central part is mild and southern part has a warm climate with low precipitation. Vegetation is changing according to the height, latitude, precipitation and density of mountain chains. Therefore, in some parts the forests are dense and in other parts are spotty. The grasslands are of summering � wintering (over 2000 meters high). Lurestan is part of ancient Ilamite civilization. The people's dialect is "Lori". The climatic diversity, watery rivers and fertile land created a suitable situation for agriculture and animal husbandry. However, construction, food, metal and chemical industries constitute part of economic resources.
