Persian Gulf basin

This basin is one of the widest basins in Iran which area is 437,150 Km2. it includes rivers located in the East, South-East, Balochestan and Zagros mountains.

There are 29 rivers which watershed basin are 1000 Km2 and flow into Iraq and after joining with Dejle river empty into Persian Gulf.

The biggest rivers are Sirvan, Karkhe, Karon, Jarahi, Zohre, Hele, Mond, Kal, Minab and Sarbaz.

Rivers of this basin are divided to 3 groups based on precipitation regimes and water flow:

A-   West and South West hillsides:

Dominant precipitation in this area, which is known as rainy zone, occurs during autumn and winter.

The biggest rivers are Sirvan, Karkhe, Karon, Jarahi, Zohre, Hele, Mond, Kal, Minab and Sarbaz.

River of this basin are classified to 3 groups based on precipitation regimes and water flow:

A: West and south west hillsides:

Dominant precipitation in this area which is a rainy zone occurs doing autumn and winter. Meting starts at the end of winter and continues till the end of spring and supplies annual water of there rivers.  Raining causes flood in Khosestan plain. Important rivers are Zabkochak, Sirvan, Karkhe, Karon.

B: Hormozgan and south of Fars province

 Water supply of these rivers is from raining and rivers are are rather torrent.  Water volume is due to precipitation in autumn and winter.

C: Oman sea shore

Rivers of this basin are irregular and change annually (mean precipitation in Jask varies between 0-412 mm in a long duration sampling).

It rains several times and causes intensive temporary torrents in the area.

Rivers change to arroyo on the rest of the year.
