Transpotation
Almost 50 percent of all energies goes in to fuel our
cars and transportation. Planes, ships, truck are
powered up mostly by gasoline and diesel fuel.
As mentioned earlier, through a refinery process, crude
oil is changed to many products. Main portion of such
products are gasoline and diesel oil. The produced
gasoline is transported by tankers to gas stallions and
wherever else they are needed.
In most stations, two grades of gasoline, regular and
premium is available. For safety reasons, fuel tankers
are buried underground. In heavy duty vehicles and some
cars, diesel fuel is used.
United state is the largest consumer of gasoline.
California a state in this country, by having 26 million
cars is the third largest consumer in the world.
Air pollution from so many cars has made the oil
companies to produce cleaner kind of gasoline. MTBE
ingredient in devised reformulated gas was found harmful
to water supplies. As this, mentioned additive is being
removed by 2005.
Depending on oil, coming mostly from Middle East
concerns the consumer countries. Since any crisis in
this region as happened in 1970, during the Arabs-Israel
war, can cause a sharp shortage of oil supply. Long
lines of cars at the gas stations of United States is
not something easily forget about.

Air Pollution and oil shortage in near future have made
a clear cut solution. Introduction of Methanol Ethanol,
natural gas, propane and even electricity powered cars,
are some short term solution for the coming crisis.
All these are alternative fuels to gasoline, there by
cars and vehicles powered by them are briefly called AFV.
At present, there are only few cars using such fuels.
But there is some optimism among people for a better
share in future.
