Q: My friend
said scientist think they discovered a new planet. |
|
A:
Recently, a large object called Sedna was found in the outer
reaches of our Solar System (in the Kuiper belt). Sedna is a
reddish-colored, planet-like body located in the Oort Cloud,
approximately 13 billion kilometers (8 billion miles) away
(three times farther from Earth than Pluto). Sedna is abour
800-1100 miles in diameter (this is about three- fourths the
size of Pluto). Sedna was discovered by Mike Brown, Chad
Trujillo, and David Rabinowitz on Nov. 14, 2003. The name
Sedna is from an Inuit goddess of the ocean |
