The study area covers 60km2, which hosts Siahrud bar-Shirin Abad syncline. Bauxite is situated somewhere between Elika & Shemshak of diasporic-chamositic type. Based on technological tests & results, about half of the silica in the ore is inactive. The absolute reserve amounts to 13Mt of ore grading 45% Al2O3 & 15% So2 but it looks to be an underestimation.
The ore in northeastern & southwestern part & near Shirin-Abad is of a favorable quality. From exploitation viewpoint, Shirin Abad is more suitable due to its better structure and low-angled & thin beds of Shemshak.
7 boreholes have been drilled for studying the area and making up maps on the scale of 1:100000, 1:50000 & 1:5000. Meanwhile all the bauxite outcrops along the syncline have been sampled.
The syncline axis trend is NE-SW, the higher lands are made up of Triassic formations & its central past (of the syncline) is made of sandstone. The lowlands are made of dolomites of Triassic.
The age of the sediments within the area range from carboniferous to recent. Tectonically, the area is a fault zone trending E-W & NW-SE.
