Abstract
Based on the contract number 11499 between the Puyakan-e Sharq Consulting Engineers and Industries and Mines Organization of Khorasan Province (former Mines and Metals Office), a region with 1200 Km2 areas studied. The aim of project is preparation of 1:50000 geological map of the area under the systematic exploration program of Nehbandan. The report includes the result of office, field and lab studies.
Aerial photographs on the scales 1:50000 and 1:20000 were used. 30 sections were surveyed in the field. Various geological data such as lithology, structure, metamorphism and magmatism were recorded.
During field survey these samples were collected 42 samples for petrology, 12 samples for geochemistry, and 23 samples for paleontology that are described in appendixes 2, 3 and 4. The data were processed and interpreted; four maps and 23 cross sections were drawn. The geochemical data were interrelated in petrological diagrams.
The assessments show that the study area involves a succession of sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks from Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous and Cenozoic. Considering the geological setting, tin and tungsten mineralization related to granites, and probably copper skarns are expected. Non-metallic minerals include graphite, andalusite, silimanite, alkali feldspar and building stones.
