Poly-metal deposit of Taknar is located 30 Km away from Bardeskan northwest, in Khorasan province. Mineralization of copper with lead, zinc, silver and gold as stratabound occurred in the metamorphic unit of Taknar slaty formation, formed as layer-parallel lenses. Metamorphic rock of Taknar formation with the age of late Precambrian (probably equivalent to the Tashk Formation in Central Iran) and its carbonate debris cover (Precambrian – Mesozoic) is a tectonic window located between the great desert (Doruneh) and Taknar faults in the south and north of the volcanic-Intrusive belt of Kashmar - Torbat Heydariyeh, Tertiary in age. In fact, the Great Kavir fault zone separates the central Iran from ophiolitic zone of Sabzevar, that trends east - west in the vicinity of deposit. The Doruneh fault is an arcuate left-lateral strike slip fault that the Taknar fault forms a right lateral branch of it, to the west of Doruneh village. The metamorphic Taknar formation has affected by right and left lateral movements along the Taknar and Doruneh faults.
Mineralization horizon affected by transverse faults trending northeast - southwest and northwest - southeast, and displaced and crop out in different positions, which entitled Taknar 1 to Taknar 4. Mineralization along the horizon is almost entirely north trending. The Taknar 2 is located at north and the Taknar 3 at south. The Mineralization zone contains a collection of ores, magnetite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite that in the northern part (Taknar 1 and 2) includes copper, lead, zinc with silver and gold ore mineral and in the southern part (deposit Taknar 3 and 4), including copper and gold ore minerals.
Study on the polished sections showed that the mineralization texture is massive related to the massive sulfide (Tasmania) type mineral deposits. However, it is not comparable with any type of massive sulfide deposits it is better to be called the Taknar type.
Massive sulfide-oxide mineralization influenced by next hydrothermal solutions (Tertiary) and alteration of secondary copper and gold mineralization (chalcocite and covellite). Preliminary investigation predicts more than 200000 tons ore with grade 2 to 3 percent copper, 1 to 10 percent zinc, about 1 percent lead, 20 to 500 grams per ton silver, and 0.1 to 3.3 grams per ton gold.
