Preliminary silica exploration between Damavand and Firuzkuh
Madankav Consulting Engineers
This project was started after the contract between Industries and Mines Organization of Tehran and Madankav Consulting Engineers at 2000. at first, all related information was reviewed. The silica potential is related to the Basal Quartzite of Cambrian, a member of Mila formation. Sampling was done from eight locations along the 34 Km-long quartzite exposure.
Based on the sample analysis data and the topography, an area (9 Km2) was selected for 1:10000 studies, when the other portions were studied on the scale 1:20000. Seven trenches were excavated from which 90 samples were analyzed for silica content. Also four samples were studied for petrography.
The result show that in the 1:10000 studied zone:
- There is 5.656 MT absolute and 86.972 MT estimated silica reserve with the composition of (SiO2 97.94%; Fe2O3 0.25%; Al2O3 0.73%)
- There is 11.911 MT absolute and 194.046 MT estimated silica reserve with the composition of (SiO2 92.20%; Fe2O3 0.64%).
In the 1:20000 studied zone, probably there is 550 MT silica with the composition of SiO2 96.79%, Fe2O3 0.22% and Al2O3 1.69%.
