History of National Geoscience Database of Iran.
The Earth gives life to all human beings so there is a close relationship between them. Since human beings need to identify natural resources provided for them, they try to know more about geosciences.
Geosciences involve several fields of study and play a key role in human being’s life. Studies and researches in geosciences are time consuming and costly.
Therefore, several databases are needed to store and update geosciences data.
National Geoscience Database of Iran (NGDIR) was founded in 2000. Its website “www.ngdir.ir” was created in 2003 in order to present geosciences information in a timely manner.
Due to several reasons such as lack of comprehensive databases, the access to geoscience information was difficult in the past. But at the present time, NGDIR alleviates the aforementioned problem through providing free information to its users. Thus, it indirectly facilitates information exchange too. NGDIR has become one of the geoscience references of Iran and has attracted many local and international users.
NGDIR collects, stores, processes, updates and presents data in its databanks through a structured method. It is noteworthy to say that, data processing includes unification, standardization and preparing reports from collected data.
There are several NGDIR databases such as Union Catalogue, Earthquakes, Geotechnics, Geophysics, Minerals, Mineral Processing, Abandoned Mines, Environment, Stratigraphy, Medical Geology, Geotourism and Geoscientists.
National Geoscience Database of Iran is of high value among its users in such a way that its website has had 152000000 visits since 2003.

National Geoscience Database of Iran aims to identify, predict and meet its users’ needs. Therefore, it does its best to gather, classify and present geoscience information of high quality using efficient methods.
